What is Satchel?

Satchel is a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet in the browser: keys are created on *your* device, encrypted with your password, and never leave it. No account server holds your seed. No custodian can freeze your funds.

Create a wallet in seconds — or import a seed phrase or an xpub (watch-only). Send and receive on-chain. When fees misbehave, you’re in control: one-tap RBF to bump your own stuck sends, and Speed up (CPFP) when you’re waiting on a payment that needs a push.

New to Bitcoin? Practice mode runs on testnet with free faucet coins so you can learn without risking real sats.

Why this exists

Most “easy” wallets trade simplicity for custody or surveillance. Satchel aims for the opposite:

• Your keys, your device — vault encrypted locally (scrypt + AES-GCM)
• Transparent fees — bump and speed-up tools built in, not buried
• A real learning path — Practice mode + faucet, not “figure it out on mainnet”
• No backend of secrets — public mempool APIs only; nothing sensitive is uploaded to “our servers”

It’s the kind of tool I want to exist in the ecosystem: small, honest, self-custodial.

What support would fund next

Contributions here are voluntary support for continued development — not equity, not a token sale, not a promise of returns. Funds go directly to the Bitcoin address on this page (GoFundYourself takes 0%).

Near-term work I’m prioritizing:

1. Throwaway practice wallets — true beginners can learn on a disposable seed with zero link to real funds

2. Hardware wallet signing — watch-only already follows xpubs; spend from cold storage via WebUSB/WebHID

3. Everyday polish — address labels/contacts, smoother unlock (e.g. passkeys where the platform allows)

If the campaign overshoots a milestone, extras go to the next items on the Satchel roadmap / backlog (live updates, taproot receive, and longer-term ideas like Lightning stay scoped carefully — not vaporware promises).
